Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are in high school in Florida. They are part of my computer classes. More than a third of the students from my school come from low-income households. At our school, we strive to include everyone. The class has females, students from diverse backgrounds, and students in the Exceptional education program. Many students in our program are learning about computer science for the first time.
Every student deserves an opportunity and exposure to computer science.
We are a school in Homestead, Florida. We are a Title I high school located in an agricultural community. We offer virtual reality Unity coding classes, and information technology classes.
My Project
Our school has gaming foundation courses where the students learn how to infuse technology and community service. The students are also part of our Scholastic Esports Program. They work with the local K-8 school and teach elementary students about computer science using gaming and virtual reality to excite students at a young age about computer science and using innovative technology for social good. The virtual reality units will be used to introduce the students to virtual field trips and experiences. Students are introduced to gaming in virtual reality and explore game design concepts in VR. The main goal of this project is to use virtual reality for classroom and community service experiences.
