Volumetric Visualization of Architectural Form

Help me give my students more building bricks to allow them create programmatic building models. Using bricks helps students to more quickly visualize and change their early building designs by analyzing the volumetric form.

My Project

My students love building blocks. In fact, they are an integral part of the critical thinking and problem solving process we use when we design buildings. 2D sketching helps to begin the conceptual process but this only allows students to visualize on the X-Y plane. Using building bricks students are able to build in 3 Dimensions and activate the Z-Axis. This allows students to think more deeply about the building form. Using concepts published by the American Institute of Architects students volumetric models can be manipulated to study the impact the sun might have on their building or how the simple rotation of the structure could take advantage of the natural features on a building site. Because the bricks are modular and come in many colors, students can rapidly change their designs and use the multiple iterations they create to make more informed decisions about their final building designs.
