This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I am requesting materials to create models and experiments that correspond with our state standards and will help my students see things first hand. We cover earthquakes, volcanoes, and hurricanes in Earth and Environmental Science, and the resources requested will allow the students to create models and then analyze these natural disasters. These hands-on projects will show the students how these disasters destroy the biomes and natural habitats, then we can understand how to work at lessening the damaging impact.
It is important to show students how such disasters interact with human and animal life, but also how they interact across the spheres and have an impact that can travel the world.
While an earthquake hits California, it can trigger a tsunami elsewhere. While these are serious issues, I want the students to understand how these disasters begin and what better way than showing them from the ground up, letting them create these themselves.
Learning is essential but it can be made fun by capturing the imagination. I am a firm believer that if you engage in hands-on learning, you retain the information much better! So let's get a little messy!
