This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come to school eager to learn each day. Each student brings their own uniqueness of diversity and qualities. They bring high energy to the classroom and love hands-on, active, and engaging learning. My classroom is centered with a variety of opportunities for students to learn through problem based learning. Students at our school are from low income homes with limited learning experiences. They come each day ready to face new challenges and try new things that will help them grow both personally and academically.
My Project
I want my students to be given more of a choice of where to sit or where to work in our classroom. Flexible seating would allow students the opportunity to not only have voice and choice, but also have positive student interactions for collaboration. I have several students who also need to be moving, standing, or lying down while working. By adding flexible seating options, such as a stand-up desk, students will be able to focus, make good choices, and work hard. Students will have the option of using soft seating stools, portable lap/desktops, or wobble cushions to work in areas around the room and not at their desk. Flexible seating gives our students the power of having voice and choice in order to make learning fun and exciting
