Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I have had an influx of EL Spanish only students in my class as we are a Welcome School in Nevada. It is hard for students to understand what we are learning without visual aides and practice. I have implemented vocabulary cluster charts that we post around the room. Students see a visual and written example of our vocabulary in English and Spanish to help learn the words.
Making posters and visuals takes time and materials.
I want my students to have the materials necessary to construct these cluster charts and also to organize and annotate their class Interactive Journals.
I have included snacks for my students. Working in a Title 1 school, students often come to me because they are hungry. A hungry student can not learn. The time before breakfast and lunch is a large amount of time and student energy begins to diminish.
