My students need the zinc metal to conduct a chemical reactions lab, the spectrum chart and demonstration to understand wavelength, and the model bright teacher molecule to help understand atomic structure.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students were heavily impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Many of their homes were flooded and our school received so much damage that staff were not allowed to enter the building to salvage any materials. Most of the students in our school receive free or reduced rate lunch and are considered at risk. Despite our struggles, students in my classroom are eager to learn and ready to take on the world! They are asking for more labs, but all of our supplies did not make it.
My students are inspired, motivated, and ready to take on the rigorous challenges of the world and will have the skill set to compete with other STEM students around the world!
My students want to strengthen their skills by developing, designing, building, and testing different ideas in class. They need to know failure is good and a part of science allowing them to understand different processes and how to modify them with more data.
My Project
Students at my school need the zinc to combine with hydrochloric acid to be able to capture the hydrogen gas product in the chemical reaction. The students will also need the wavelength and spectrum demonstration to help them visualize visible light wavelengths. Lastly, my students will benefit greatly from the large atomic structure model!
Having hands-on laboratory materials will help my students visualize difficult concepts!
This is key when preparing them to make connections between the classroom, laboratory, and real world situations. Additionally, cross cutting concepts and content from other disciplines can be pointed out to students easier with fun, exciting hands-on materials.
