My students need the Science of Disney Imagineering DVD's to have a visual representation of how the principles of STEM are used in REAL careers that can be fun and innovative.

Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

A school full of future scientists, technology experts, mathematicians, and engineers from grades kindergarten through 5th grade enter my classroom every week. They think they are completing challenges where they get to use their creativity to build cool contraptions or fun inventions, yet they don't realize they are using principles of science, math, and engineering with a little technology thrown in the mix. My students are innovators, developers, and creators.

Though they possess these skills, my students come from very low income backgrounds.

100 percent of them receive free breakfast and 99 percent also receive free lunch. Many of my students get their meals for the weekend from local churches who provide backpacks full of food for those who may go hungry when they are not in school.

In spite of the difficulties they face outside of school, my students are eager to meet the STEM challenges they are presented. They are the future. In fact, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of 2015, 8.6 million jobs were STEM related and that number is steadily increasing.

My Project

Many science and math concepts that are used in STEM are very vague to students. Though I show Power Point presentations to introduce new STEM challenges, it is difficult to convey these concepts without a good visual representation. These DVDs will provide students with an introduction to STEM challenges with a visual representation of these vague science, math, and even engineering concepts through virtual field trips into the Disney Theme Parks.

The Science of Disney Imagineering DVD videos will allow students to visualize STEM principles and careers in action.

The DVD's also demonstrate to students how the STEM Design Engineering Process is used in real life and why it is so important to plan out their designs before building as well as to make improvements when things don't go as planned with their creations. Additionally, the Science of Disney Imagnieering DVDs will provide students with a method to see how the STEM concepts fit together in real careers where planning, design, engineering, and improvement operate the rides and attractions that began at the Disney theme parks and continue to improve them today.
