My students need Time Timers to learn to visualize time as a measurement. They also need a Yacker Tracker so that they can learn to self-regulate their own behavior with a concrete measuring tool.
My kids are just starting their school careers. Our school is a mixed NCPK/Title I school, so my students come from various backgrounds and have truly varied life experiences before coming to us.
My students are curious and active little sponges, taking in everything around them.
They are very hands-on, which helps them to grow and become more independent. They are eager to learn, and grateful for what we are able to provide them in the classroom.
My students live in a rural community that is high-poverty. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Typically, about a third of my students are English language learners.
My Project
My students need Time Timers and a Yacker Tracker to assist with transitions, activity planning, and social-emotional development in the classroom.
Time and noise are very abstract; having a visual device helps young children see the movement and measurement of these concepts.
Preschool students have difficulty understanding the concept of time. For them, yesterday was Halloween and tomorrow is their birthday.
The Time Timer helps students see how long an activity will last. This helps children that are doing a difficult task persist, and children that have difficulty transitioning know how much time till clean up.
The Yacker Tracker is a device to help monitor the noise level of the class during learning centers. Since our classroom is very busy, having a visual reminder is a good way to self monitor.
Together, these items will help my students gain independence and self-control by teaching them to use their time wisely and regulate their own behaviors in a positive way.
