Whether they are building patterns, tracing letters, or simply marveling at the way light shines through different objects, the light table invites them to be curious, creative, and engaged.\r\n\r\nThis addition has been more than just fun—it has been incredibly beneficial for their learning and development. The light table encourages fine motor skills as children manipulate small pieces, strengthens early math and literacy concepts through sorting and letter exploration, and fosters collaboration as they work together to share materials and ideas. It has also been a calming, sensory-friendly space for students who need a quiet moment to refocus.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful for your generosity in making this possible. Your thoughtful gift has brought so much joy, curiosity, and learning into our daily routine- and I'd love to share just how meaningful it's been for our young readers. In our preschool classroom, books are more than just stories- they are tools for growth. With your donation, we've been able to introduce important early literacy skills such as letter recognition, vocabulary building, sequencing, and comprehension. Many of the books also help children explore emotions, friendships, diversity, and the world around them in a way they can understand and connect with. Reading in our classroom is integrated into many parts of the our day. We start our mornings with story time on the rug, where our students gather to listen, ask questions, and share their thoughts. Throughout the day, books are available in our cozy reading corner, where students sit quietly with a friend or stuffed animal, flipping the pages and admiring the pretty pictures, retelling the stories in their own words. My students were so excited when I told them we had a box to open with new materials for the classroom. Students sat on the carpet and watched with big smiles on their faces as I pulled each item out of the box and explained what they were. \r\n\r\nThese materials helped us end the school year with more hands on experiences. The materials really went along well with some of our themes for our spring lessons like plants and insects. I began introducing the students to some of the new materials in small groups. For example, during our lessons on plants students were able to use the plants magnetic activity tins to create the life cycle of a plant, match the different parts of a plant, as well as match fruits to the plants they come from. Students were also able to use the insects magnetic activity tins when we discussed different insects. Students were able to sort insects from spiders by counting the number of legs and put the butterfly life cycle in the correct order. They also really enjoyed the real bugs kit. They were able to use a magnifying glass with the real bugs kit and see up close what different types of bugs really look like. \r\n\r\nOverall, I think my students have really enjoyed the hands on experiences that the materials in this project provide. Since we were able to get several different things I will be able to rotate all of these materials in our science center to keep the students engaged and ready for more. Once again, thank you all so much for contributing to our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1744032918698,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-science-education-in-the-presch/9170194/","projectTitle":"Hands on Science Education in the Preschool Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Perkins","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3442941_orig.jpg?crop=1824,1824,x0,y243&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742153112738","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3442941"},{"teacherId":4976236,"projectId":9199450,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our STEM and science project! Their eyes lit up as we unboxed the talking microscope, butterfly pavilion, STEM challenge cards, and science activity table. One student exclaimed, \"We get to be real scientists!\" It was such a joyful moment that showed just how meaningful this project is to them.\r\n\r\nWe recently used the Insect Lore Butterfly Pavilion as part of our life cycle unit. Watching live caterpillars grow, form chrysalises, and eventually transform into butterflies was an unforgettable experience. Each morning, the students rushed in to check on their caterpillars and record their observations in their journals. It sparked so many questions and rich discussions! We paired this with the talking microscope, which allowed students to explore up-close images of bugs, plants, and animals while learning fascinating facts—perfect for our budding scientists.\r\n\r\nThe STEM challenge cards and hands-on activity cards have become a favorite during centers. Students are building bridges, testing balances, and solving simple engineering tasks—all while developing problem-solving skills, creativity, and teamwork. The science activity table has become our designated discovery zone, where we rotate experiments and STEM stations that align with what we're learning each week.\r\n\r\nUp next, we'll be diving into a unit on weather and nature exploration, using our new tools to observe the environment, ask questions, and make predictions.
