I am in a position for Library and STEM. I service every student in the building but I do not have a budget or money given to me for art supplies and books. These supplies would be so helpful because supplies are donated but not art supplies and books of equal rights, learning about everyone being equal, and visual representation for all students! We do a lot of projects and challenges in STEM and learn about these things but when it comes down to them being able to draw themselves or color people I don't have adequate supplies for everyone I teach. I loved this initiative to see everyone and make sure everyone is heard and represented!
We are learning about each other's background and finding out about: Who do you look up to?
Being able to represent them the way they should is going to be wonderful! My student will take away from this we are all different and all different colors and the color of our skin doesn't make anyone different! We all have different role models and different people that shaped us to be us. I'm just happy because they can represent them the way they should be able to... with the correct color of skin! That's what makes us unique. Once we have read our book "Parker Looks Up" and worked on our lesson on who they look up to we will have some wonderful visual representations of their role models to share.
