My Project

I am a first year ESOL teacher of 80+ Newcomer level 1 students. This is the absolute best teaching position I have EVER had! These children in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades have changed my mindset and have given me a renewed positive outlook on why I became a teacher years ago.

Visual Dictionaries in Native Languages and English help us enjoy learning new words with beautiful illustrations while making connections!

I received a few dictionaries this week and the impact and excitement of students using these has been positively inspiring! The students are sharing and teaching each other words in their native language and saying English words. I am requesting more because I have large groups of students and we would love to have more than one at a table. They are excited to use these and teach each other and me new words in their language. These little dictionaries are a game changer and have already made a positive addition to our learning environment. The only problem is one is not enough! Several students have asked me if they could take these home. I have to explain that all my classes are sharing, so we need to keep them in our desktop bins. We have worked hard this year building a classroom community of mutual respect for our diverse population.
