Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school has approximately 600 students and 25 classrooms ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade. Ninety-seven percent of students are on free breakfast and lunch assistance. The average salary in their homes is substantially below the national average. My slogan is "Fun in One.” I teach through my slogan.
The nurturing environment they receive in my classroom for 180 days is just as important as the one they receive at home.
We strive to SOAR every day at our school. Help us be better scholars every day.
My Project
Did you know from kindergarten to third grade every child is expected to know 220 words? The Sizzix die cut machine will allow students to see high frequency words on our walls in our classroom. Every student learns 40 a year in school. The Tier 3 (at risk) students master 10-15. I make sure they know 90 them by the end of first grade. Students take home word folders and have to practice words every night. We go over them every day. With the Sizzix the words will be visible on our ways and add to their routines of reading the walls.
