My students need sketchbooks for my beginning drawing class. We use these sketchbooks on a daily basis in and out of my class to practice drawing techniques and skills.

My Students
My beginning drawing class is an introduction to 2-D artists and foundational drawing techniques. It's been very challenging this year because I am working with a zero budget. I have applied to some grants but it's hard to purchase specific resources like sketchbooks.
Washburn High School is a great school to learn and teach at.
It's a diverse school that has a great sense of community. My beginning drawing class is a mix of students in grades 10-12. They have already taken our foundational course and Beginning Drawing is a course where students can dig a little deeper in the medium. This spring I hope to teach a mix of traditional techniques using still life and one/two point perspective along with non-traditional projects like graffiti to engage my students.
My Project
We use sketchbooks on a daily basis to warm up in at the beginning of class, to sketch in outside of class on a weekly basis, to doodle and to brainstorm ideas for their projects. I hope for students to use these to develop their projects in for mock-ups prior to beginning a project. They will learn a variety of techniques such as shading, weight of line, perspective and composition through out the semester.
Being able to give my students a sketchbook will be an incredible gift.
Not only will they have a personal space to express themselves, but years later they can look back to see their drawings and visual ideas. It is so important as an artist to record ideas and practice techniques. Having a sketchbook will improve my classroom because students will be able to stay organized by keeping their work in a spiral sketchbook.
