Visual Book Companions For Special Learners

My Students

I teach a Special Day Class of thirteen students who love to learn, grow and play in a positive nurturing environment. Each one of my students learn in their own unique way and learn best when we use a variety of learning strategies, small group work and lots and lots of fun! I am lucky to have my students for more than one year usually, so they are not only my students but become my family too! They are all incredible and make me proud to be a special education teacher!

My Project

I teach a group of students with special needs. I am planning on making visual supports for these books to help my students with reading/listening comprehension. I will make story sequencing cards, visual story element cards and a visual test for each story! My students love to read and learn best with the use of visual supports to assist them with reading comprehension!

I am planning on using a book a week to teach reading/listening comprehension, vocabulary and writing to my special learners.

My students will focus on learning story elements and story sequencing.

I have chosen a variety of books across the span of a year that will be of high interest to my students.
