Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine your first year of school. Kindergarteners walk into their classroom with exciting expressions and hearts full of joy. This is the first academic experience for many of the children at my Title I community school. Most of my students do not know how to read or write or know their numbers but are eager to do so. I am setting the foundation for many years to come. My goal is to give young learners a nurturing, caring environment while teaching them how to read, socialize, and gain the confidence to become academic leaders in the future.
My Project
As students are learning to read, they need access to high quality, engaging texts that they can actually read! These decodable readers will provide students with the word practice they need to grow as readers, while also keeping them engaged! I would love to have new decodable readers for the students to take home during our distance learning and to be able to display during our small group Zoom instruction. With these decodable readers, through the use of a document camera, students will feel more confident in their own reading skills and will be more interested in reading on their own!
