Virtually Dissecting Is Just Not the Same As Hands On!
Help me give my students the fetal pigs to connect what we have learned during the year. The students remove and label the organs and place them in the appropriate labeled system.
My students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom in our low-income, high poverty school district.
My students are creative, hard-working, energetic young men and women.
They are curious, intelligent and passionate individuals who enjoy a challenge. They come to class curious and eager to learn about the human body. The true excitement comes when they are given the opportunity to dissect. Applying what is taught in class to carrying out dissections and recalling information at the same time is truly rewarding.
My Project
Dissecting fetal pigs allows a real world look into the concepts we are studying. Many of my students have expressed a desire to go into the Medical field, and this will give them a hands-on experience to help them decide if this truly is their calling. The fetal pig dissection is the most exciting time in a student's high school science experience!
Do you remember your high school dissection experience?
My students always remember this. They come back year after year talking about it which encourages the next years students to also try this vital experience. They are able to combine all of their knowledge on the body systems units and see it first hand with their fetal pig!
This dissection is the reason some students fall in love with science. It empowers the students with knowledge applicable to the human body.
