This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I began teaching 24 years ago and taught 5th grade. Then 10 yrs ago switched and began teaching Social Studies to 1st through 5th graders. Recently, I found out that I am teaching FIrst grade virtually - Teaching All Subjects!!
I'm even teaching my former 5th grade students' children!
My picture shows a former 5th grade class of mine. I'm now a multi-generational teacher. I try to have innovative materials to work with my diverse population however I have no materials to teach reading, writing and math. Scary prospect!
I teach in a wonderful, yet low socioeconomic area. Since we are a Title I school, teaching my kids who are now doing remote learning will be tricky as they don't have any materials at home to use.
My Project
Oh my goodness, where to begin. I plan to use a number chart with them and have a fun morning wakeup with a count along! Additionally, I want them to practice their handwriting skills, hence the sentence strip whiteboard along w/a magnetic dry eraser black pen which comes with an eraser cap! So it's a 2 in 1! Less to lose, if you know what I mean. Then there are math manipulatives that will help them w/me online and when they're working independently. Phonic workbooks will also help independently and give them confidence.
