My Students
Imagine a way to explore the wonders of the Spanish speaking world (both modern and ancient) without leaving our classroom!
With the help of Google Cardboard and Google Expeditions, this is now a real possibility!
Each and every one of my 150 students are refreshingly diverse and genuinely interested in being kind to one another, in learning, and in acquiring language. What they love most, however, is learning about other cultures in an authentic way.
This year, our hope is to expand our cultural explorations so that they are authentic and exciting! Google Expeditions and Cardboard allow us to take 3D tours of some of the most incredible locations in the Spanish speaking world. We come from a small town; and since not everyone gets the opportunity to travel abroad, this technology would allow them to get a real experience in these extraordinary places.
My Project
Most people know that virtual reality (VR) is here to stay in our gaming and video world. You may not know that it has huge potential in our classrooms!
Two years ago I got to see how Google Expeditions and Google Cardboard can transport my students to the awesome sites of Latin America and Spain such as Machu Picchu, Chichen Itza, and the Alhambra.
Google Expeditions allows me as the teacher to teach language in the context of traveling to these incredible places. We get to view these sites in a virtual, 3D world as if we were actually there! The possibilities are endless and the only thing keeping us from taking advantage of these visits to these historical sites is the technology - Google Cardboard. They are sturdy, easy to use, and work with any phone device (which my students already have!)
