Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a curious bunch, who learn best by exploring their environment and making personalized connections to the material. My students value their education, challenging each other to do better. They want to stay connected to current issues, and to express their opinions.
My students also include many students who travel from their neighborhood schools in order to gain access to challenging classes and opportunities in the community.
They come from low income families, and make the effort to improve their circumstances by reaching for a four year college education. My students are varied in their heritage, their home language and in their access to learning materials, but they all help each other to learn.
My Project
What does Madrid look like? This is a question that comes up in the language classroom. While we make the best effort at bringing in tools to showcase culture, and to inspire students, only a few are able to see the locations that we speak about, like the Prado Museum in Madrid. Imagine how exciting it would be to strap on Virtual Reality goggles and explore locations that might otherwise be unattainable, while walking on our campus. Imagine the excitement of exploring as an individual, taking the the opportunity to learn by discovery.
This is an opportunity to inspire our students and show them life beyond our neighborhood.
The virtual reality equipment, as well as the iPad mini, headphones, and case, will allow my students to learn by investigating, and to learn how to formulate the questions that lead to critical thinking.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
