Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students range from Freshmen through Seniors, all with learning disabilities and dyslexia, who are either non-readers or reading no higher than a 3rd grade level. They require multi-modes of input to learn. They are part of a multi-sensory reading program, which is a highly structured program using many styles of learning in a self-contained setting to provide intensive supports in a small group setting.
Our school is a neighborhood school located in a high poverty area with limited resources, so there is a lack of materials and resources to support and engage students.
With schools being closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, my students are having a hard time with e-learning from home. They don't have the experience or enough knowledge of technology to easily transition to virtual learning.
My students work really hard to improve their reading and with the use of a variety of materials, they will be able to continue to improve their reading using multi-modes of learning input from home.
My Project
My students are part of my multi-sensory reading program which provides them a highly intensive reading intervention using structured lessons and a variety of materials.
During the school closures due to the coronavirus pandemic, it has been difficult for students to have access to different types of materials.
The Sight Word materials such as the Sight Word Magnets, Flashcards, Sentence Board and and Flip-Read Sentences, will help me to provide my students with sight word reading practice during our virtual class using a variety of engaging materials. The Teaching Easel and Pocket Charts will allow me to display Sight Word materials while teaching.
My students will truly benefit from these items and will help me provide them with a better virtual learning experience. Thank you in advance for your support.
