My students are a diverse group of sweet, curious, and energetic kids. Most of them come from single-parent families who fall below the economic poverty line. They love to come to school every day and experience all the richness that our little school family affords. Many of them are being exposed to educational opportunities in our classroom that have not been shared at home. I hope to share new experiences with them and impart a love of learning that will follow them throughout life. By the end of first grade, I hope to transform the "I can't" statements into "I'll try my best!" statements.
We have shifted from a traditional classroom setting and are now tasked to learn and teach from home.
There are certain bare essentials that aid teachers in daily instruction.
Access to a dry-erase board is so important because it gives me the opportunity to demonstrate skills I am teaching to my students. They are able to see the skill implemented and use that knowledge to practice the skill. Having a dry-erase board and markers will improve the quality of instruction that I deliver. The table-top easel will transition wonderfully from a teach/learn from home tool to a perfect small-group instruction tool that can used in the classroom.
The alphabet cards will be useful for review while we are at home and will also be used in the classroom later.
In Math, we are just beginning our unit on time. The clock will allow me to demonstrate lessons online with a tool that students can see. Later, when we return to class, they will have access to smaller clocks that are similar to the one I am requesting. They will already be familiar with the clock due to the online instruction they will receive.
