This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Each day, second graders depend on me to teach them how to read, write, and develop critical thinking skills that will be the foundation of their education. These students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Their families qualify for free lunch and often do not have the means to provide quality literature, basic school supplies, and other educational tools at home. So, I feel it is my role to provide them with rich learning experiences on a day to day basis.
Due to their backgrounds and limitations in resources at home, my students often enter elementary school significantly behind their more affluent peers but all of them are eager to learn.
My Project
Virtual learning is here to stay for my second grade students, at least through the end of March 2021. As this is no longer a temporary arrangement, the time has come to make some improvements for this semi-permanent way to teach and learn.
One of the biggest issues for students is zoom fatigue - getting tired and losing good posture and the ability to focus as they spend more time on zoom.
The chair, adjustable desk and core seat will allow me to continuously model good posture that will help students mimic this so that they can fight zoom fatigue and continue to learn.
Lastly, the ring light will help students see my face during phonics lessons so that they can mirror my mouth movements to make sounds. This will also be used to make higher quality videos for reading that students watch after their daily live lessons. The document holder will help me see my script and lesson plans at level with students so I can engage more with them.
