This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Everyday in my US History class we talk about people and events that happened far away from Central Florida. Most of my students will never have the means to travel, but with virtual field trips they will get to experience such places.

My students are awesome!

I get to teach US History to a wonderful group of 8th graders who come from various backgrounds. The majority of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch, but this does not stop them from excelling in my classroom. Our school is very structured and our students thrive under these conditions. I would love for my students to have more opportunities than what life has already given them.

My Project

Imagine studying the duel between Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr, did you know there is a monument in Weehawken, NJ dedicated to this event? What about the harbor in Tripoli where the USS Philadelphia ran aground, have you seen those rocks? Or the Bloody Lane at Antietam, can you picture yourself there? All of these places can be visited using VR technology and Google Cardboard. I envision using these products in my classroom to take my students to places they have never seen and most likely will never visit. This will help my students gain a better understanding of my curriculum and help them throughout the year.

Donations for my project will improve my classroom by knocking down the walls that keep my students from leaving Central Florida, if only temporarily.

I am sure you have heard that travel is one of the greatest experiences you can have, but without the means it is almost impossible. Virtual field trips are the next best thing, and we can make that a reality.
