Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Readers, authors, mathematicians, scientists, and computer-savvy teachers are the perfect description for my fifth graders. They are happy, sweet, and driven students. They are all eager to be back at school full time and very committed to doing well academically. My goal is to provide each and every student with unique opportunities and experiences for them to grow as learners and it begins with reading. Reading at grade level is the priority, especially when the pandemic has created a setback in those school-time reading opportunities. Being in an area that is considered largely underfunded compared to local districts, these students have had many challenges to face. With eighty percent low-income and sixty percent speaking English as a second language, innovative resources and materials go a long way to help with their success. My students are highly motivated to succeed and understand the value of being back in full swing!

My Project

When Dave Nettell visits a school for his Cooperative Adventures, it is nearly impossible for him to step foot on campus without "Mr. Nettell!!" shouts from students and a line of hugs. His classroom programs make such a difference in the lives of children that not only are there instant changes in classroom behavior, but they take these skills and apply them toward their family relationships, friend relationships, and real-world experiences.

These skills teach children how to take hold of their emotions, demonstrate positive social critical thinking skills, and improve communication skills through unique team-building opportunities.

Mr. Nettell has been sharing his unique program for decades. His experience as a classroom teacher, as an administrator, a professional development teacher, and as a world traveler is unparalleled.

He sets the tone with "challenges" that celebrate positive behaviors that encourage students to support one another in making good decisions, thinking before speaking, focusing, and personal success. Students strengthen their teamwork ability and positive communication skills. The changes I have seen from past students undeniably prove his worth! Students see their hidden potential and begin to take risks in a safe environment. Last, but not least, the students leave each program knowing that they are loved and that they have so much more to offer our classroom and our community.
