Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Due to the pandemic students are stuck in their homes with little or no resources to help them learn to meet grade level standards. Students left the school building on Friday and were not allowed back. Teachers, students, and schools are struggling with online education. The effect of this I am sure will last for many years. My students are located in a low income area where all my students receive free or reduced price lunch.

The transition from traditional teaching to now working remotely has proven to be very difficult not only for myself but also for my students.

My students have struggled to get devices that will help in the learning process. There are shortages from computers, laptops, ipads to school supplies. Many of my parents can not afford to purchase these devises or materials that will help their children.

My Project

When our school closed its doors my students not only lost access to learning but also to food, a safe place, caring teachers and supplies such as pencils, notebooks, crayons and reading books.

We are living history and I believe it is important for students to have a place to write down their ideas and feelings.

I believe if students had these supplies it would increase their participation. Even if they can complete online assignments they can also work using hands-on materials. Having a journal to write feelings will help with my students social-emotional needs. My students need resources that will help them learn at home, filling in gaps they are missing by not being in the school building.
