My Students

I am a 3rd Grade Math Teacher. I love my students desire to fully engage in my Math class. Due to their enthusiasm, I am offering an after school hours virtual Art Club to allow my students to gather virtually and learn how to draw as a means of easing their sense of isolation. In addition, research shows that art enhances learning when students produce authentic work. Art, because it is so deeply cognitive, helps develop essential thinking skills, enhancing students' ability to represent abstract thinking, a key skill in mathematics.

My Project

This project will help my students' sense of connection during a time of social isolation. Providing a virtual Art Club for students to express their natural desire to create will provide a time and space for students to connect with their peers. In addition, it will help students develop the skill to represent abstract thinking, a critical skill in the ability to think mathematically.

The supplies my students will receive will help them develop the skills to become amazing young artists.

One of my parents commented: "Art is critical to life. I see my son full of pride after drawing a beautiful picture. I asked him what he likes most about drawing and he said it makes him feel good. We need more of what art brings to life. We need more art in our schools."

Roger has not consistently had art at school since Pre-K. He really misses it. I am thankful you are offering an art club."
