All of my students qualify for special education services in math. Their achievement levels are significantly below their general education peers, and as a result of their learning disabilties come to me for direct instruction in small groups. My students need to have a working knowledge of basic number sense before tackling higher levels of math. The math manipulatives will provide my students with the ability to "feel" their way to understanding basic math concepts. The additional direct small group instruction, in my special education classroom, provides my students with practice that will aid in their mastery of expected mathematical knowledge.
