Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a music teacher, I'm privileged to be teaching music to the hardest working kids on a daily basis. When given challenges and high expectations, my students have risen up to the task and achieved their goals.
I teach at a Title I school in Nevada where a high percentage of students come from bilingual homes and receive free lunch.
Although many students face difficult situations in their lives, they are willing to work above and beyond to achieve their musical dreams.
Our school motto is "We Are Family" and we have developed that with our growing number of music students with our second year Middle School music program that consists of Band, Orchestra, Choir, and Mariachi and many of the students taking two music electives to further on their musical studies.
My Project
The Violins are an important part of the orchestra and Mariachi. My students are eager to learn about Mozart, Bach, Mariachi Vargas, and other great performers of our history and will have the opportunity to learn different styles.
With these instruments, students who cannot afford to rent or buy instruments will have the opportunity to participate with their peers in creating music; an opportunity that all students should have without worrying.
Students will get the necessary training to understand, comprehend, and perform music that is important to all. Music shown to improve student performance and important for the development of other skills necessary to succeed.
