My students are a great mix of kids from different multicultural backgrounds and different socioeconomic backgrounds. Our school is 74% free/reduced lunch. My students are about 29% Black or African American, about 40% Latino, about 24% White, 2% Asian and about 5% Multiracial.
By having their own instrument it will help develop more than just musical skills.
They will develop more responsibility, pride in ownership, work on making and reaching small goals, work on their patience in learning, and learn the process of hard work towards a long term goal.
All 5th graders are participating in "Strings for all" for the first year. Each student get to choose from violin, viola or cello. Having enough instruments for all students is vital for every student to be able to learn together.
Each student will have an instrument to play and learn to care for to help build their brains, responsibility and self confidence.
This is the first year that this is offered at Leopold and so getting together enough instruments for every child is a bit of a challenge. Many students have not learned an instrument like this before and they are so excited to get started. We need your help!
