Ms. W. from Stone Mountain GA is requesting lab equipment through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a Google Expeditions Kit so that we can begin exploring the major world regions, focus on historical development, the geography of each region, examine political structures, and build basic economic concepts.

My students are motivated students with various disabilities learning about mathematics, sciences, reading, and writing. My students come from a variety of backgrounds which allows us to integrate all types of learning. The main focus for my students is to keep them abreast on how our world is evolving while reinforcing the importance of understanding social studies concepts and how to apply the knowledge to real-world applications. Most students struggle with reading and significantly below grade level. Students need to be able to read to be successful across the curriculum (language arts, math, science and social studies).
John Dewey stated, "If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow." Today’s students have surpassed traditional learning; they are technology savvy.
Therefore, I would like to continue to teach and encourage my students according to their unique ways of learning. My students are motivated 6th grade Special Education students that have deficits in many areas such as reading comprehension, basic writing skills, and math fluency. My school is a Title I school with an increasing number of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch.
My students must keep up with the latest advancements in technology while learning core academic content. This school year, we are implementing one-to-one Google Chromebook technology for all students. Therefore, I would like to expand learning through Google Apps for Education this year and I need new technology to prepare our students as 21st-century learners. Google Expeditions is an opportunity to do just that! Google Expeditions is a unique classroom experience that allows me to take my students on a guided virtual field trip. Google Expeditions will allow my students to explore parts of the world. As we study the major world regions, I will be leading Expeditions where students can visit various world events in Europe, Asia, Latin America, Australia, and the Pacific.
My students need to experience the world beyond our classroom walls.
World Studies will come to life for my student in a way that I cannot simulate any other way. Students will be able to explore geographic locations around the world. Students will work in small groups to discuss their findings via the explorations and expeditions kits. My goal is to create a learning environment that will inspire students to learn about our global society, see the world, and how others live.
