Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach all subjects in a fourth grade classroom at a Title I school in East San Jose, California. Over 85% of our students are eligible for free lunch. The majority of our students are English Language Learners. Over the past two years of teaching, I have learned how crucial the creation of visual images is to my students' vocabulary development and concept comprehension. Here are just a few of the many ways I would use an LCD projector in our classroom: First, I have created power point presentations for our weekly reading stories in order to build my English Language Learners' background about stories that address topics from civil rights to the Holocaust to medical breakthroughs to mountain climbing. With a classroom LCD projector, providing these interactive experiences could occur weekly. In addition, having an LCD projector would allow me to take virtual tours of museums and educational websites with my students to supplement our texts. Another goal I have is to further student mastery of technology by allowing students to create group projects on the computer and present them to the class via the LCD projector. My students respond enthusiastically to any form of technology which I am able to integrate into the classroom. I cannot begin to tell you how much an LCD projector would revolutionize instruction in my classroom. Learning cannot happen without engagement, and an LCD projector will facilitate this key ingredient. My students are bright, beautiful, and inquisitive. A lifelong love for reading constitutes an enormous asset for any child. Given the challenges my students face, developing this passion will enable them to continue to achieve academically and increase their options for exploring the world and using the many gifts they possess. Thank you for your care and generosity.
