My Project

I am the adviser of The Round Table, our school's newspaper. Since I have been the adviser over thirteen years, we have transformed the publication into an award-winning digital news site, with stories or videos published daily and a weekly news broadcast viewed by the entire school.

Three years ago, we added a weekly Spanish-language version of our program, run by a totally separate group of Hispanic students.

Our school is extremely diverse, and this new addition was very well-received by our Spanish-speaking students. It helps them to feel like they are a true part of the student body, which of course, they are.

All of our production is done in school on just two computers. This has been a bit of an issue since the Spanish version of the news was introduced. There is often a backlog of student editors waiting to use the computers to edit their work. Now the issue is even worse, for two reasons. The first is that one of our two computers is nearing the end of its expected working life of five years, and is glitching frequently and running very slowly (further hindering production). The other (much happier) reason is that we are now planning to add versions of the news in both Ukrainian and Haitian Creole (two other large populations in our school). Unfortunately, these additions will likely not be possible without some additional equipment, namely an additional Mac Mini and a monitor, which is what I am requesting. I can take care of the other peripherals such as cables, mice, keyboard, etc.
