Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a middle school librarian servicing low-income students in a rural area. Our middle school has approximately 1300+ students from 6th grade to 8th grade.

When most people look at our students they see their challenges, inside and outside of school; but we see their resilience, determination, and creativity.

The make our days worthwhile, and they are definitely deserving of any and all learning opportunities.

My Project

School libraries can have a transformative impact on student learning. However, our school library has lacked a purpose for a while now. There is no personality - no welcoming space that would encourage students to visit and want to read.

They say don't judge a book by its cover, but our library at first glance is dull and boring; please help us build a colorful reading space with rugs, chairs, and book storage galore!

Help us create a temple of learning that students can take ownership of - we want to hear the students say "MY library" with pride!
