My Project

According to Dr. Peter Liljedahl, in a more traditional math classroom, the lesson might start with direct instruction from the teacher. In a Thinking Classroom, a typical math lessons starts with the teacher assigning thinking tasks for students to work on in groups, and direct instruction is only given on an as-needed basis.

One of the biggest priorities in 2nd grade math is developing strong problem-solving skills and number sense.

Research has shown that having students work on vertical non-permanent surfaces, like whiteboards, can boost their engagement, reasoning abilities, and math comprehension.

I'm requesting 6 mobile double-sided whiteboards to implement the "Building Thinking Classrooms" approach developed Dr. Peter Liljedahl, a mathematics educator. With these mobile boards, students will have a large workspace to visually represent their mathematical thinking as they collaborate in small groups to solve problems. The vertical surfaces encourage movement, discussion, and dialogue - key components of active math learning.

Students can roll them around the room for teamwork or use them for sharing and presenting work to the whole class. Hands-on, visual aids like these are invaluable for cementing 2nd grade math skills. Any donation is greatly appreciated to help bring these innovative, research-based practices into my classroom. With your support, my students will become more confident problem-solvers and mathematical thinkers! Thank you for making a difference.
