Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn."
It is my goal as an educator to individualize learning to best meet the needs of all students.
My students are unique individuals who all have their own interests, learning styles, and personalities. It is my job as an educator to meet students at their level and help them grow not only academically but also socially and emotionally.
A full 100% of my students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our school has a high population of English Language Learner students and students who receive a variety of services. However, each child comes to school every day eager and excited to learn new things.
My Project
I am requesting a book vending machine for students in grades Pre K to 8. This project will help foster a love of reading and provide students with their own reading materials.
With a student body that consistently demonstrates a love for reading, we thought that implementing a book vending machine could further encourage this passion and ensure that all of our students have access to books to supplement their learning.
This vending machine is based on the positive behavior system in which students receive tokens when they demonstrate actions which align to Kennelly's positive behavior expectations such as helping peers in need, actively participating in class, and actively listening to their teachers and classmates. The tokens that are accumulated can then be spent at the vending machine. The machine will include a range of books from picture books to chapter books to meet the needs of all of our students.
