I am the speech-language pathologist at my school and we are starting something new this year. I am going into the classroom to teach phonemic awareness and phonics to 2nd grade children.

We are in full swing with the phonics program. It is great, because I teach the lesson on Wednesdays, and the teachers reinforce it with mini-lessons on the other days. I am in the process of making manipulatives for the children and I am running out of velcro! The velcro allows us to move sounds as we work on blending sounds together.

I am making manipulative boards for each child in the classroom, and the velcro is essential for the success of the manipulative use. It keeps our materials together and in good shape. The children love to "rip" off the letters as they are blending sounds and words together.

Your help will ensure that my 2nd graders at this school will have optimal chances to learn their sounds, blend and read! Thank you!
