Growing as individuals as we grow our own vegetable garden.
Our fourth graders are a fun and active group who love to be outside.
They also love to learn through hands on projects. Allowing students to create something of their own is one way we learn at our school. I also believe that growing a garden as a group will bring us closer as a class as we support each other in our gardening.
Our students will create their own mini garden using the resources. Each fourth grader will get to grow two vegetable plants of their choosing. The student will complete each step of the process, and gain a sense of personal ownership as they watch their plant grow from a seed to a vegetable. They will gain an overall understanding about what it takes to grow and care for a plant.
Through this project our students will gain a sense of personal ownership and success, as they care for their individual plants and watch them grow from a small seed into something real and edible.
Students will also gain exposure to vegetables that they may not encounter on a daily basis.
