My Students

Our school offers a rich program covering a variety of technical and life-driven skills. This includes two different Computer Science courses. The first is a year-long "Exploring Computer Science" course which focuses on the broad applications of Computer Science, and exposing students to these applications. This course takes a less programming driven approach (but still includes programming), and shifts the focus toward the application of technology. This course that covers many areas of Computer Science and Information Technology including: programming, robotics, hardware, graphics, and other topics. Our school also offers a College Board aligned AP Computer Science course which offers students a formal introduction to Computer Science curriculum at a college level. This class is also application driven, but of course also brings in the more technical, algorithmic, and mathematical elements that are necessary in order to succeed in college level Computer Science courses. Both courses give students a starting point on a path to explore Computer Science, and to begin working toward a degree if that is their desire. We work to build off of students' real-life experiences and passions, and to allow them to expand on these in the classroom. Our students are highly driven!

My Project

I will gain confidence and hands on knowledge that will enable me to be a better AP Computer Science teacher in the coming year. I will be able to clarify AP requirements, teaching strategies, and ways in which I can guide my students to be successful on the AP test and beyond. I will share my experiences and gain insight from other educators. I will build upon my Computer Science knowledge, and clarify how I can better serve my students in the classroom. I will build my comfort with AP standards/requirements, and prepare to meet these demands in the coming school year.
