Utah Covid Funds

Help me give my students who are on zoom a chance to interact by having a zoom monitor for my class. Also help those who are in person have more hands on interaction through lab experiences.

My Students

Mostly sophomores, some juniors and seniors who are on the college track.

They are students who are pretty on top of their school work and know where they are headed past high school.

My students come from middle class families. Many of my students have families where both parents work to provide for their family. Most of the parents have some sort of post secondary education (certificate or associate degree.) A few of the parents have professional level degrees (PhD, MD or JD.)

Some are children of immigrants who are making successful inroads into a new culture and country. Some of my students have been here in this area for the past 7 or 8 generations. About 30% of my students are minority with the balance being Caucasian. The economic numbers are about the same, with about 27% of my students being low SES.

My Project

Items that will help bridge the gap for students who are learning from home due to the disruptions of the Covid-19 pandemic. Items that will help with interacting via zoom and also with interactions within the classroom.

I would like to focus on lab materials so that the students have hands on experiences with the ideas and concepts to solidify the chemistry theories that will stay with them beyond this class.

These materials will be used to teach many ideas throughout the year. The safety glasses will help provide these experiences while practicing student safety.
