Using Technology to Support Reading Comprehension!

My students need some extra opportunities to support their reading comprehension skills, and these fun and engaging computer games give us a fun, new approach to reading!

My Students

We love to read! But sometimes we miss the main idea or struggle to predict what's coming next. We would love to strengthen our skills while playing computer games with a partner! Help us bring these fun games into our classroom and improve our reading comprehension skills today!

My students were the first Kindergartners to enter a brand new charter school in our first year!

Now that they are in the 3rd grade, they continue to forge the way in a program that teaches through interdisciplinary projects. Opportunities to share their learning by displaying projects are a great way to inspire young learners!! Our school enrolls a socio-economically and culturally diverse group of students who come together to learn through a constructivist approach. Parent volunteers are highly active and have helped us build our school from day one! Through our Edible Schoolyard curriculum, we focus on the themes of eco-literacy to create academically integrated projects that are full of real life learning experiences and still directly connected to the state standards.

My Project

In these dynamic games, students play in teams as they read short, level-appropriate passages and then answer questions to advance through the game by predicting outcomes, using context clues, and identifying facts vs. opinions. By playing games our students get a chance to develop their skills in the areas of drawing conclusions, critical thinking, vocabulary development, recalling facts and details, and understanding and analyzing text. The 6 different games come with a class site license that will allow all our 2nd and 3rd graders to benefit and enjoy the fun!

As we move forward from third grade, more and more of our learning will stem from our reading skills, readings from social studies, science, the newspaper, great literature, and more!

This fun approach to becoming better readers will set us on the road to success!
