My students are English Language Learners who speak different languages at home. They are students who are enrolled in general education classes, but need support in developing their English language skills, in order to excel in their other subjects. They love to learn and come to class every day ready to work hard!
In order to fully access the grade level curriculum, my students need support in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding English.
This will help them be their most successful in school and in their future career paths.
It's time for some new headphones in our class. My students use headphones to listen to books being read aloud and to use text-to-speech tools that help them to better understand their assignments online. These headphones also come with attached microphones that will allow my students to practice their spoken English. They will be able to record and listen to themselves for practice as well as record audio for presentations and projects.
Feeling comfortable presenting in front of other students is challenging for many students, but can feel especially uncomfortable for English learners.
Presenting and speaking in front of peers will be an important part of their middle and high school careers so giving my elementary students plenty of practice will build their confidence and help prepare them to be active participants in their current and future classes.
The plastic bags will make storing the headphones a breeze so students can quickly grab one set of headphones without untangling all of the wires! They will also use the dry erase markers to take notes on our mini whiteboards.
