My students love reading books and love being read to. Many of my students have little exposure to books outside the classroom, and I would like for them to have opportunities to listen to audiobooks throughout our day in kindergarten.
I work in a high needs all boys elementary school located in an urban neighborhood.
All of the students in my school qualify for free meals. Many face academic challenges in addition to economic challenges. I feel fortunate to play a role in their lives and am happy to help them become successful. They are eager to learn and arrive each morning with smiles on their faces.
My students will be able to listen to audiobooks independently using the MP3 players. I read to them daily and we read together in small groups. However, these materials will provide an engaging opportunity to read to themselves. This will benefit my students tremendously. They will learn to self correct when reading and also improve their fluency. In addition, comprehension skills will improve as they explore a variety of literature. The MP3 players will be used several times throughout our day which will help them grow as readers.
Donations to this project will provide opportunities for my boys to be exposed to more books.
Most of their families do not have books and very few visit local libraries. As a kindergarten teacher, it is my responsibility to help them become engaged in stories. Donations to this project will allow me to purchase the tools necessary to help my students become better readers. I greatly appreciate your assistance.
