My students need iPads to engage in hands on speech lessons. Using iPads my speech students can access speech therapy specific apps which provide them with visuals to enhance their understanding.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a bilingual Speech-Language Pathologist servicing bilingual and monolingual students in pre-K through 2nd grade. Students in our school come from ethnically diverse backgrounds and speak English, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Hindi and Urdu, just to name a few. They are as economically diverse, as they are ethnically diverse.
As an SLP, I work with special education students.
Specifically, children with articulation disorders, learning disorders, language disorders such as following simple/complex one and multi-step directives, vocabulary deficits, difficulty narrating stories, telling stories in proper sequence, as well as nonverbal children with assistive technology devices.
My Project
Using the iPad my students can actively engage in captivating, hands-on activities to enhance their learning while using a familiar tool. For example, a student working on following directions will be given the following verbal directive, "go to the home screen, look for the app, then tap once to open the app." A student with articulation disorders can use the iPad to practice their target sounds using one of several apps used for articulation. The student can also record themselves for instant visual and auditory feedback of their pronunciations. Lastly, a student with retell or sequencing difficulties can use the iPad to compose a story using a cartoon-based app; something most students will enjoy using.
Your generous donation to support my project will improve speech sessions by enabling students to take ownership of their work, seeing their progress with instant visual feedback, as well as building their confidence.
They will love speech sessions while learning and experiencing success!
