Using Technology to Engage My Students in Learning
Help me give my students my students another way to use Chromebooks to see visualization of their assignments to better help them understand the material.
The students that I worked with are in a resource course. They are students within all high school grade levels who have learning disabilities and have 504 accommodations. Many face challenges around processing, verbally articulating material, and completing tasks in a mainstream classroom. I also work personally with students who need extra time and support on tests, homework, and technology based projects.
As a resource specialist, I try to instill an effective learning environment where my students are comfortable and acknowledge that I am there for support.
All of these students are very hard working, are motivated, and all have the expectation to do well in school. I am honored to work with such wonderful students on a daily basis.
My Project
My students are faced with personal and educational challenges on a daily basis. With access to this new form of technology, I will be able to effectively work and teach them valuable ways to integrate technology into their learning. Through modeling, visual representations, clarification through scaffolding with online resources etc. will make my students feel as if they have full access to the content that their classmates also have.
Also, being able to have this computer in class will allow my students to actively see and engage in a step by step learning process with their teacher.
The best way to train students using technology is to provide a strong model--scaffolding techniques around using technology appropriately. There are a variety of free applications, including Diiigo, presentation makers, IMovie, etc. which will allow my students to obtain skills around 21st century learning. Those include annotating text on a computer, creating appealing presentations using an easy step by step process, and creating movies in class to show their understanding of the material through different modalities.
