Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a 4th Grade ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) class with 27 students and 2 teachers. We are both large in size and large in life. If I could describe my classroom in five words it would be: rigorous, loving, supportive, talented, strong-minded and hard-working. We have students of all different backgrounds, shapes, and sizes. Students in my class are working towards being mindful: mindful of themselves and their actions, mindful of their work habits and mindful of their needs.
In 4th grade this year we are becoming self-monitors and we becoming accustomed to strict routines (in preparation for departmentalized 5th Grade).
Since we are so large in size it is important we have the right amount of equipment and technology in our classroom for students to keep routines flowing each and everyday. Starting off our day with direct routines of unpacking, checking our Daily 3 center chart and then going to the assigned center is very important to setting the pace for the rest of the day!
My Project
In 4th grade this year we are becoming self-monitors and we are becoming accustomed to routines. Since we are so large in size it is important we have the right amount of equipment and technology in our classroom for students to keep routines flowing. During the Literacy learning block we start our day with the Daily 3 where students have 3 different centers: Guided Reading, Word Study, and a Listening Center. In the listening center students go on a Website Application called Reading A-Z. On Reading A-Z students listen to a story on their reading level, read the story aloud to a device that records them. Lastly, students answer comprehensive questions on the Website/ Application. Teachers are then able to check the comprehensive areas that students did well in and need further help in to create Guided Reading groups.
Since our school has one iPad cart per floor, we often receive the iPads twice a week.
Guided reading is one of the most highly effective teaching strategies for young readers. Both co-teachers in the classroom must be able to work with there own group on comprehension reading skills and strategies starting at 8:30 AM when we enter the classroom. Having the Amazing Fire Tablets in our classrooms will be useful for us to simply start each and everyday with this routine (rather than having the iPad cart every other day).
Growing reading levels is important to students across all subject areas. Having the Amazing Fire Tablets in our classroom will be useful for us to simply start each and everyday with this routine allowing myself, my co teacher and students to come into school ready to learn!
