One word to describe my students is...Amazing! My little ones come to me with an eagerness to learn and it is my goal to instill a lifelong love of learning in them. For most of them, my classroom is their first school experience.
Each day, they are learning to socialize with peers by sharing, problem-solving, cooperating, and even contributing to a class.
They come each day to gain a sense of who they are away from home and learn best through movement, play, and interactions with their peers.
My Project
My students are in need of some science/sensory materials to use.
When engaged in sensory play children use all of their senses.
It promotes sensory integration which is the ability of the body to integrate and process all of the information it receives via the sensory modalities of touch, taste, smell, hearing, and vision. As children pour, dump, build, scoop, and explore they are learning about spatial concepts (full, empty). They learn pre-math concepts along with language and vocabulary. Messy play can be calming to children. It is not just about making a mess and getting dirty; it is an essential component to learning that encourages exploration and discovery through play.
I have also included tricycle helmets in this project only because we are in dire need of them. Our old helmets have dry rotted and are unusable.
