Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The library at our school is working hard to encourage our students to learn for the fun of it! The majority of our girls come from economically disadvantaged households and underrepresented groups. We recognize the need to make learning an engaging experience for our girls, and they have continually shown how committed they are to setting goals and working toward them.

With hands-on learning opportunities and activities to promote creativity and individuality, we aim to help our girls smash gender stereotypes and pave the way toward academic success.

My Project

We know how technology integration can transform a classroom.

These iPads would help our students learn 21st Century skills and be highly engaged in a variety of different digital storytelling projects.

We have had great success with green screen projects in the library so far. For instance, students recently created a digital newscast in which they taught their peers about natural resources. A social studies class also utilized the green screen to create projects about other parts of the world. At this time, we have 2 iPads that these large groups share for their classroom projects. Adding these iPads would help our students use our green screen space much more efficiently.

Further, after attending the TCEA conference in Austin, I've learned so much about various iPad apps we can use to promote digital storytelling. One particular app I would love to start using immediately is Flipgrid. This app allows a teacher to promote a topic, share a grid, and have students add their own video submissions to the site. The library can use this amazing app to promote storytelling in a number of ways- digital book talks/reviews, retelling of stories according to a certain theme (folktales, etc.), or simply "ask and answer" scenarios where students will be invited to share their personal experiences with a specific topic.

Receiving these iPads would make a huge impact on our students' learning because technology use is very appealing and engaging to our students.
