Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school consists mostly of second language learners, special education students, regular education students, as well as gifted and talented students that are considered socioeconomically disadvantaged. Most will be returning to face-to-face instruction after a year and a half of virtual learning due to COVID-19. Many of my students do not have the ability to purchase basic school supplies. I want to provide them with the resources needed to succeed with your help, I can.
My students want to learn, feel empowered, and be successful in life.
They are eager to learn and to be challenged. I want to provide them with this opportunity. I teach sixth-grade students who are starting middle school and ready to learn. It's my goal to fulfill my students' educational needs and help them be ready for any educational challenge that they may face.
My Project
Do you remember the first time you ever picked up a graphic novel and were so captivated by the storyline that you could not wait to get to the end and discover what happened? I do and I want to ensure that my students have graphic novels available to enjoy.
Sixth grade is a crucial year for students and we can either foster the love of reading and help develop critical thinking skills or let students fall through the cracks.
By exposing students to graphic novels that make them think while keeping them engaged, I know they will become better readers and critical thinkers.
