My students are explorers, risk-takers, and the innovators of tomorrow. Located in Northwest Arkansas, the population of my school is vastly diverse in background and opportunity. Yet, I am continually amazed at how they are able to build lasting communities of learning and challenge themselves to achieve more than is expected of them.
They are deeply passionate about learning and creatively solving problems in and out of the classroom.
Although their passions differ from each other, all are worthy to be explored.
My Project
Sketchnoting is a fun and engaging way to add visual representations of complex ideas in your notes. Research shows that doodling while taking notes can increase retention of difficult concepts. Gone are the days where students are discouraged from drawing during lectures; rather, I aim to encourage and promote this practice in my classroom. Furthermore, these resources will allow us to explore potential careers in cartooning and graphic design. My students will be exposed to a whole new industry in our economy.
Your donation will provide students the materials to begin sketchnoting and gain confidence in their ability to stay focused and retain information in class.
Students will benefit greatly through sketchnoting by gaining an invaluable tool that can be used in every classroom, conference, or brainstorming session. Additionally, the use of color and art can make what most middle schoolers find boring immediately more captivating. I hope that through sketchnoting and graphic designing, my students will, dare I say, be excited to take notes.
