My students need a variety of art supplies that include soft pastels, markers, brushes and crayons to expand their learning beyond their paper and pencil.
"Every child is an artist..." - Pablo Picasso
My students love to share what they have learned through their creativity. Everyday I do my best to create this outlet for them, but I would love to do more with them in order to really expand their learning beyond their textbooks.
My second graders are bright, curious and see the world in a different lens than you and I.
As much as they learn from me and each other, I am the one who learns the most from them everyday. Each and everyday I am proud of my students work and overall attitude despite what may be going on in their home lives. Many of my kids have experienced a variety of situations that as adults we have never been in or heard of. My school is located in a very small rural community in Northern California and majority of our student population are below the poverty line. With that said, unfortunately students are sent to school without proper school supplies. Our school does its best to provide them with basic materials for their core subject learning, but we still need your help to provide materials to expand their creative side.
My Project
With the resources I am requesting, my young learners will be able to expand their learning beyond their paper and pencil. In Language Arts, I envision my students creating visual posters in response to stories we read in class as well as books they read outside the classroom. They will also be able to draw and create pictures that correspond to various writing prompts that we will write about throughout the year. For Math, I envision my students being able to work together and create learning maps to teach each other math concepts in our new math program. In second grade, we learn about dinosaurs and other animals, geography features like landforms, and plant science. With these materials it will allow them to make bright and colorful visuals for their classroom projects that are based on these scientific topics. I also plan on teaching them about artists like Picasso, Monet, and Michelangelo and how their art styles are a big influence of the art they see today.

Your donation will help my students receive a well-rounded education that concentrates on both core subjects and the Arts.
In addition, it will allow me to have materials readily available when teaching them about various artists of our time. I believe that allowing students to express themselves creatively in correlation to what they're learning helps them in numerous ways. Most importantly, your donation will show my students that you care about them not only as learners, but individuals too.
